Adventures in Garage Saling...

I will just start by saying...
I had a fabulous weekend garage saling.

Instead of setting a tea table today
I thought I would share
my favorite find!

Saturday morning I didn't have a lot of time..
but  I think "why not run my garage sale route real quick"
(yes.. I have a route, I am a creature of habit).
I plan to just do drive bys....

(click photos to enlarge)

I see a sale that has lots of dishes..

Then I see this tea set
it is love at first sight!

I see the price and my heart just pitter patters :-)

Then I grab a few other very nice dishes,
(I will have to share those later:-)

Pay for my goodies..
The lady who's sale it is helps me wrap the dishes in newspaper,
she is wrapping the teapot and pulls out...

her purchase receipt,
she says "Look Mom the receipt is still in here"
her Mom comes over to look,
I look over and TRY not to gasp.

So now I am holding my breath
because I know someone is gonna take my prize back!

But no one does :-))

Then I come home and look up the pretty mark on-line...
A reproduction!
(see that uppercase L it should have been a lowercase)

Then I look at the pretty pretty roses,
and know I am still beyond thrilled!

Labels be it on clothes or dishes,
just don't mean that much to me.

The beauty is what makes my heart pitter patter :-)

The gorgeous teapot..
Or is it really a chocolate set?
(I know one of the Expert tea ladies will know)

 cream and sugar...

roses :-)

It was a great day Garage saling :-)

I am joining several great tea parties today!

I think it's incredible! you were so lucky. I agree with you i don't care about the labels it's whether I love it or not! I 'm pretty sure its a chocolate pot. Thanks for sharing.

What a beautiful find for you day!!!

Bella-How beautiful! I think it's a chocolate pot too;>) So...I am you think the lady paid that much for the set you got???? Or...was she tricked...or was she trying to trick someone? (I'm old, I think I might have missed some subtle hints somewhere) I am the same way, though, if I like something the label doesn't matter...and if it IS labeled and I don't like it-I don't want it anyway. lol I have some friends that will buy a piece of clothing just because it has the right label on it...craziness, huh? You have hit the jackpot of garage sale finds! This is a gorgeous set. The colors and flowers are so delicate. It could be a chocolate pot set, it is hard to tell how small the cups and pot are. The fact that it comes with a cream and sugar is odd though, seems maybe more for espresso? or coffee?
Thank you so much for sharing with us.

Bella, you are one lucky lady! That is a gorgeous tea set, and I agree, labels mean nothing, it's about how much it appeals to you. It is beautiful, and I admire how it goes so well on that tablecloth you have set it out on.

This is gorgeous. What a wonderful find. I think it is beautiful. This is going to be wonderful in your rose garden for tea or maybe chocolate.;)

Oh, Bella, your tea set is making my heart go pitter-patter too. What a gorgeous, gorgeous find! Love the teapot or chocolate pot; probably could be used for either. The roses on it are exquisite and I'm so happy it's found a home with you! Thanks for sharing your beauties and thanks for stopping by for tea. I hope you have a lovely week.

Tea, chocolate, whatever it is, it's gorgeous! I would, of course, use it for tea, or maybe coffee sometimes.

Hi Bella :) What a fabulous find at that garage sale!! I am almost positive it is not a chocolate pot. Chocolate pots have the spout near the top, and coffee and tea pots have their spouts near the bottom. Their is a reason that chocolate pots have their spouts at the top, but for the life of me I cannot remember why :( Anyways, it is a very lovely set, with such beautiful roses; and who cares if it's a reproduction or's gorgeous!!

Happy Tea Tuesday!!

Warmest hugs, Brenda

Oh, How thrilling! Its beautiful! So happy for you! I buy what I fall in love with,no matter what! It is not a chocolate pot, they have tiny spouts at the top. It a maybe a coffee pot, or a teapot. I use my coffee pots for Teapots all the time. The spouts on teapots are closer to the pot, the coffee pots angles up high. I really think yours is a Teapot, I looked and looked at the spout, it does look a little tall as a coffee pot. But no matter is so lovely! Lucky Lady! Thank you for sharing this lovely set with me on Tea Time Tuesday!

Bella, you are the Queen of garage sales. Not only did you find some pretty dishes but they have roses on.
Garage sales must be different in the US because the ones here just seem to have junk and rarely have I seen the quality that you pick up. Then again, maybe it's the area I live in where country folks don't part with their good stuff but pass it on in the family. :-)
I have to admit, I like looking at the treasures you find and are happy for you. Judith

Dearest Bella,

Quite a find! Looks like an old mocha set as the cups are also not 'tapered' as is usual for teacups. But you really hit BINGO with these! Such lovely decor...

Hi Bella,
Reproduction or not, that is an incredibly beautiful and elegant tea service. The roses are exquisite. Very good buy. I can't believe the original receipt was still inside it and that you got it for such a great deal.

Lovely. I'd be walking on sunshine, too.

Hi ya! Congrats on your great find! Isn't it rare to find a whole set of something like that at a yard sale? How fun and pretty and what a bargain! I'm glad you're having a bang up Tea Tuesday! Jacqueline

I agree, you found treasure in that garage sale, something you love at a great price. Beautiful!

I keep wondering about a lot of teacups I have too, how can we tell if some are meant for tea, coffee, espresso? I am learning a lot about china, tea, and history with these Teacup Tuesdays~

Oh my goodness, I can just imagine your heart stopping at that moment. Something similar happened to me once - we rely on the goodness of people's hearts!
I tell my children not to put my things in a garage sale for that very reason.

Hi Bella,
What a super gorgeous set!!! I'm in love with the pink roses!
I see that the woman's mother paid $350 for that set and you got it for $25? What a deal!!!!
And I agree about labels...I don't care much whether they are valuable or not, if I love it then that's good enough for me!

Blooming Rose Musings said...

Be still my heart!!! The set is gorgeous. It doesn't matter if it's a reproduction or not, what matters is that it's beautiful and you love it. I hope you really use is and it brings lovely memories to you. Gorgeous!

Bella, I collect RS Germany or RS Prussia hand painted rose plates or serving pieces. I only know that because my great great grandmother had these plates and my hubby is German and I know them by their trademark soft, beautiful handpainted roses. So...when I saw this picture I "squeaked" it appeared to be the most beautiful (due to the purple I love) RS Germany tea set (with the sugar and creamer it does not appear to be a choc set, but then I am not an expert by far) I had ever seen. I could truly believe the price was $350. You paid $25! Then you said it was a reproduction and so what. I would have snatched that up for the beauty in a heartbeat. Like I said, I only know the label by the look of the handpainted roses, the only article I can spot in an antique store and I kid about that saying it is my "german" genes from my hubby. This is truly a find and you hit the mega jackpot and I am sooo jealous! However, knowing your beautiful gardens and home, this is a perfect fit for you and them. I cannot wait to see it placed on a table in your garden or with your beautiful flowers on a table inside or chair or whatever you do it always is stunning, soft, romantic and takes my breath away. Congratulations!!

After I posted, I saw the dates on the comment above mine.....not even sure how I came to a post almost a year old, but I think loving handpainted china like I do, I was "sent" here. Whatever, if you do have the chance to see this comment above, know how blessed you are by such a beautiful find. Now I have to find my way back to 2011! So weird.
