Lavender Sugar...

Sometimes the simplest of things
can be so special...

(click photos to enlarge)

Like Lavender
I have been obsessed with it since my trip
to Lavender Festival

(The Lavender Cookbook, by Sharon Shipley)

So I bought a Lavender cookbook...

I have dried lots of buds over the summer
so this winter I can try some of the recipes...

Today I made Lavender Sugar...

It only has two ingredients
(yes lavender and sugar:-)

1 Tbs. Lavender Buds (organic)
2 cups sugar (I used organic unbleached sugar)

Grind the Lavender with 1 Tbs sugar
in a spice grinder until fine...
stir into the remaining sugar...

Let it stand 3 days before using...
the flavor will keep for 6 months...

It is good for baking,  sprinkling
and sweetening drinks...

I will be using mine for tea..
and a batch of sugar cookies...

It smells delightful
so simple and elegant:-)

Creating Sepia...

For tonight's tablescape
something completely different...

Not a bit of pink!
hardly any colour at all...

creating sepia...

I reused the centerpiece from last nights post

Except I swapped the dove for a white pumpkin...

The alabaster dove was given
a higher more regal roost
in my silver compote...

(plates from Two's Company)

I used my new pair of
brown transfer ware plates...

Set over detailed white chargers...

Vintage napkins dripping in frothy lace..

Candlelight is a must have on a fall table,
a single taper keeps it soft and simple...

A favorite vintage butter dish
holds eggs..

A tangle of crocheted lace runs beneath
the rambling centerpiece...

Dried white rose add charm...

A birds eye view...

White Bird...

Since it is White Wednesday...

(click photos to enlarge)

It was the perfect excuse,
to build a little white centerpiece...

An alabaster dove takes center stage...

Candlelight is a must

just a wee glow though
from this single taper in a silver holder...

I built her little nest on a silver tray...

Because I am obsessed with white and silver this year!

Cozy as she can be :-)

A Time of Gathering...

For me fall is a time of gathering,
a time to feather my nest...

(click photos to enlarge)

A beautiful Autumnal day
is a call to gather...

So I went on a small local country drive...

(there is beautiful Mount Rainer in the Background)

Looking for Rose Hips...

I filled my basket...

I trimmed and displayed them in small votive cups,
along the top of my sideboard..

With warm candlelight...

and sparkly crystals....

The soft and cheery glow
is sure to drive away
any dread of the pending cold nights:-)

Early Autumn in the Garden...

A pretty Autumn day
a perfect time to stroll the garden...

(click photos to enlarge)

My little white birdhouse,
sitting among the Anemones...

A pot of fall Mums
waiting to be planted,
an iron butterfly flutters by :-)

The Lace Cap Hydrangeas outside the dining room window..

A Pacific Tree Frog hiding in the Hydrangea
hurries to get away....

The Beauty Berries
are turning vivid purple...

My garden rabbit
guards the last Foxglove bloom...

The blooms of the Sedum
 announce Falls arrival...

The Delphinium welcome the cool weather
and bloom in all their glory...

The Sweetness Rose
sends out a late bloom...

My trusty Gertrude Jekyll
is still
a lady of great beauty...

The Soft Tones of Autumn...

The Hydrangeas have faded...

(click photos to enlarge)

To their soft Autumn colours...
perfect to enjoy in a tabletop vignette
as they dry...

A so soft pink blush
in a vintage rose jug...

Chartreuse blooms
in a Chippy
Kitchen Kraft mixing bowl...

Sit on top of
an old favorite green scale...

No harsh Autumn oranges,
just softly fading colors...

drying slowly,

Preparing to be made into wreaths
to grace the front door:-)
