Farewell to September...

Where did September go?

I thought I would take you on a  mini garden stroll today,
a farewell to September...

Please forgive the flowers their bumps and bruises,
we have had a stormy week...

(click photos to enlarge)

I planted a Dahlia years ago,
it was so aggressive,
it was huge and knocked over everything in it's path,
I pulled it last year....

but I see she has been the winner...
a pair of cheery blooms :-)

almost irresistible :-)

the last of the Coneflowers,
the goldfinch are excited to see them going to seed...

the Sweetness Rose is loading up for her
final flush of blooms....

the heart of sweetness...

this Therese Bugnet Rose
is new this year,
the blooms have been few,
but she has grown like a weed!

I can't wait to see what next year brings...

I think this is the most common phrase
spoken by every gardener I know....

No matter if it is a good year or bad,
the expectation of next years show,
is always mightier in the mind....

Ballerina Roses...

even on this gloomy day,
with thunder rolling in the sky,
she looks like the picture of spring!

my High Hopes Rose,
had a hard time in the record cold of last winter.

I have hesitated to cut her to the ground,
hoping to avoid it...

She is resilient,
new canes have been shooting up from the ground,
but the arching canes over the top of the arbor,
just couldn't be saved...

the few blooms that there were,
I snipped for bouquets...

there is always good to be found :-)

a Welcome to October...

 "Listen!  the wind is rising,
and the air is wild with leaves,
We have had our summer evenings,

        now for October eves!"
                                                                                               Humbert Wolfe

 Today I am joining,

Thanks for strolling with me today....

Silly Objects of Desire...

Do you have those silly objects of desire,
that your heart just wants..
although they are just plain frivolous?
(of course you do :-)

My current temptation
has been those Jeanne 'D Arc wings,
they thrill my heart every time I see them...

when I am bored late at night,
I think about pushing the buy button,
but at ninety four dollars,
I just haven't been able to...

(click photos to enlarge)

Then as luck would have it,
I saw a pair at Victorian Trading Co,
for only twenty dollars!!

I bought two pairs :-)

for now this pair is hanging over the mantle...

this seems to be where all new items
migrate to in the house,
a place to get to know them...

The other pair will go over the bed for now.

I can't wait to use these at Christmas time!

aren't they just divine?

and at Victoria Trading Co.
I also got a halo,

for when I am feeling
like an angel
or at least need to look like I am...

If you are interested in wings of your own
here are links to both sites...

The Queen of the Flowers...

This morning I found a pair of perfect roses,
on my unknown rose bush...
(I really am going to have to invent a name for her!)

One thing led to another
and my favorite rose book was brought out
to linger over a bit...

The Romance of Roses
an anthology of verse and prose...

it probably isn't too hard
to figure out who I consider the
Queen of Flowers...

The Queen of the Flowers

The cowslip is a wench,
the violet is a nun,
But I will woo the dainty rose,
the queen of everyone.

A Summer Review...

So I guess I will have to face it,
summer is officially past...

I though I would share a look back,
a farewell nod...

When summer gathers up her robes of glory,
And, like a dream, glides away.
 Sarah Helen Whitman

Lavender flowers and blue skies...

the seemingly endless Valerian blooms...

fish swimming lazily...

the Roses!

Toadflax swaying gently in the breeze...

garden secrets,
as ancient as time...

lazy days in the gazebo...

the Roses...

an abundance of beauty,
to gather...

the bouquets...

taking time out for tea
in the garden,
with a good book

in my heart though,
this summer belongs to the girls...

Daisy and Iris
came home to live with me in June,
and have ruled every moment of the summer...

I knew two puppies would be a handful,
and they are...
but the joy,
 has been immeasurable...

I am gonna miss splashing around :-)

Tonight I am joining...
and

Thanks for stopping by today....
