Our weather has been
glorious!
icy mornings...
and
sunshiny days...
the garden is breaking ground...
the first crocus have popped up...
as have the first dandelions,
ready to start the race...
in the bare garden...
a mossy bench
waits for it's leafy canopy...
maybe the birds know something we don't...
these little birdhouses,
with the oval openings are for Violet Tree Swallows...
their slim bodies and agile wings can maneuver
the odd shape...
this gives them a good safe home...
but each spring,
a contortionist male sparrow
will decide to make it his home...
he cleans it out...
only to find
the girl he has been building his little nest for
can't get in...
and the love birds have to move on
to find a new more accommodating home...

did you think we had very fancy birds?
I give the birds craft feathers each spring to nest with,
it is a delight to watch them
flying around carrying all the bright feathers...
the crocus eased open
as the day warmed...
does this mean
our winter is over...
probably not...
after last years crocus bloomed we had
piles of snow...
it does mean
we had a beautiful day :-)

It has been glorious weather and I tell you my mood has simply soared. Last week I was blogged down and had to do a post on summer flowers I was so down with the rain! Lovely as always Bella.

we also have been having wonderful weather and the crocusses are quite far out. I covered them with pine greens, in hope that they will not freeze at night.
Your garden looks all ready for spring. I love the idea with the pink feathers, and will try this since we always get alot of birds nesting here.

It seems like spring comes much earlier for you than us here in the Midwest. Is it all of your rain? Crocus...already!

Bella what a sweet post of spring and hope especially for us who have to endure 3 more months of winter weather. I love the idea of putting out pretty feathers for the birds nests. My sister's grandkids put out bits of yarn for the birds in the spring. Enjoy your spring weather! Pamela

The crocus looks great--can't wait til mine bloom as they are sticking up now. I was wondering about that pink feather:) I thought I was really missing out on some kind of fancy hot pink bird:)
I'm making the Rose Queen tote you posted in May of last year. I know, I'm slow. Do you still feel transfer paper is the best way to get the image onto the bag? So many bloggers are posting about various ways to transfer to fabric, that I am a bit confused. This has been on my list of things to get accomplished since I first saw it. It's so pretty!! Thank you for sharing your talents with us.

You make me wish for spring! Your flowers are so pretty. I love the Violet Swallows house. I also put nesting materials out for the birds. I usually put white feathers out, among other things, but how fun the colorful ones would be.

As I look through your blog I realized that your photos remind me of Toshi Otsuki's photos. When Victoria magazine first came out way back when, I collected them mostly because his photos were so beautiful and, quite frankly, soothing. Yours remind me so much of those. Wonderful!

We've had such a mild winter here in New England, my garden has had an early start, too. I love your idea of putting out craft feathers for the birds. The birds and squirrels around here do find the oddest thngs to bring into their nests. Last year, a squirrel brought a plastic bag up into the tree, as if he wanted to weather proof his little home!
