The Last Garden Stroll of Summer...

We have shared a lot of garden strolls
this summer...

But fall is knocking on the door...

Are you ready for summers
last dance...

we have had a very uncommonly
dry year...

and it has taken it's toll...

in the background you can see the Hydrangea,
have already lost all of their vibrant colors..

but the roses are still happy...

a quartet of Bonica Roses
sit at the corners of my little formal path...

they were grocery store roses,
bare root in plastic bags,
for about five dollars each,

they never fail to look stunning...

the days are turning more golden...

the sun is lower...

the garden more back lit,
sometimes dazzling in it's twinkling light...

other times,
soft and shadowy,

when I forget how early the sun is setting these days,
and don't get out to take pictures early enough...

the last of the Lavender is blooming,

since we are not the ideal climate for Lavender,
I plant several varieties,
informally...

then when I lose a bush or two
(which I often do)
a new bush is easy to slide into the bare spot unnoticed...

it also spreads the blooming season out :-)

all creatures great and small
are preparing for the cold days ahead,
fattening up...

bee's are trying to salvage
the last nectar from these tattered Bee Balm...

I haven't the heart to cut them,
they are always a buzz with bees and hummingbirds...

having a sweet drink...

see that tongue...

I am gathering too,
soaking it all in...

Today I am joining...
and

Thanks for strolling with me today,
I always enjoy your company...

Oh, lovely pictures. The autumn sun lends a magical quality to the photos. I really like the spider web picture. :-)

Such beautiful pictures of your garden. I am cutting as many roses as I can now too - although our growing season is a little longer here. Pretty soon the leaves will turn and a new season will begin with its own splendor.

Beautiful photos~ it has been so hot and dry here this year too. I think it's the worst my yard has looked in 5 years probably! I am thinking of planting seeds next year - wildflowers, etc. If you have any recommendations for things to put in this fall~ let me know! Your garden is always so inspiring!

this is a beautiful garden tour! We planted bee balm this year and miraculously the deer have left it alone. Your lavender is also lovely, I can't seem to grow it here.

Your garden is so lovely. Sad ours was not so due to the extreme heat and rain we had this year.

Still feels like summer here in Oregon-temps today at 90! Tomorrow expecting high 80's. Is this what they call an Indian summer???

Strolling with you in your garden is such a delight, the formal piece of garden, the bees and the butterflies, and over all the roses.

Thank you for the wonderful photos! I love the early autumn. Quiet, cool, clear air ... Light gilding on the trees and the last flowers in the garden. Beauty!

Always love your soft dreamy flowers whenever I stop by! Especially love the spider's web and the photo of the lavender. I've been away from home and didn't participate in Bloomin' Tuesday this week. I will miss Jean and all the other gardeners. Take care!

Just heavenly Bella! I so enjoy my strolls through your beautiful gardens. You've been a wonderful and nurturing mother to all you grow. It's truly enchanting and I appreciate what you take the time to do because I know it's a tremendous amount of work!!! So worth it though right...
Enjoy the coming fall my friend.

Your 'end of summer' garden is so lovely, Bella. And you capture it so beautifully in your photos. I've noticed lots of bees and butterflys here, too, clinging to the last of the Butterfly Bush and Veronica blossoms. All of nature seems to be getting ready to hunker down!

Hi Bella: I am running late for Tea Cup Tuesday, but I got lucky and got to see you beautiful post today too. I love your tea cup. Pedestal tea cups are so hard to find. I only own one and I think yours is so much prettier. Thank you for sharing it with us. Hugs, Martha

There are still plenty of blossom in your lovely garden. Temps here are still in the 80's but most of my flowers have died back no. But the petunias are hanging in there. hugs and happy weekend wishes

It's such a transitional time for all of us, Bella. Humans, insects, plant life....and you captured it all so beautifully once again. It's sad to bid summer farewell for another year since it seemed to go by so quickly this year. :)

It seems with the cooler temp.'s that we have had lately, the flowers in my garden have perked up and are looking better than they did all summer!!
