Eden Rose...

I gave my Eden arbor a big
tidying up...

treating myself to the remainder of blooms...

The Eden Rose's
formal name is Pierre de Ronsard,
in tribute to the famous French Poet...

my friends on the other side of the pond
always remind me of so much...

Pierre de Ronsard (1524-1585), French poet

SONNETS FOR HÉLÈNE

When you are truly old, beside the evening candle,
Sitting by the fire, winding wool and spinning,
Murmuring my verses, you’ll marvel then, in saying,
“Long ago, Ronsard sang to me, when I was beautiful.”

There’ll be no serving-girl of yours, who hears it all,
Even if, tired from toil, she’s already drowsing,
Fails to rouse at the sound of my name’s echoing,
And blesses your name, then, with praise immortal.

I’ll be under the earth, a boneless phantom,
At rest in the myrtle groves of the dark kingdom¹:
You’ll be an old woman hunched over the fire,

Regretting my love for you, your fierce disdain,
So live, believe me: don’t wait for another day,
Gather them now the roses of life, and desire.

Garage Sale Finds...

If you were a reader
of my blog
in summers past...

you would probably remember
how much I love garage sales...

maybe?
I have talked about them too much
 in the past...

I haven't really shared
any of my finds with you this year...

the sales have been
so slow...

I hope you
are having better luck than me!

a trio of mix and match dishes...

the platter and green plate are Limoges...

the little soap dish unmarked,
but not unloved....

I have wanted a cheese dish forever,
I have no idea why!

but, they are just so quirky!

and well,
you know
I can't say no to pink roses...

a compote
that will be so lovely in the fall
and maybe with roses now too...

a set of pressed glass tumblers,
they catch the light so pretty...

and,
make a pretty good impromptu
hat stand too...

old millinery is so romantic...

this blue hat just pops
and makes me think,
maybe,
I need a little blue in my life...

this sweet cherub bowl
 was an early find...

the Mother of Pearl buttons
I found last weekend,
and the pretty cameo too...

I have made a couple bigger finds too,
I'll share one next week...

the others are stashed away
awaiting their makeovers...

I hope the sales have been good to you!

Thanks for stopping by today....

After the Rain...

Last week,
late Spring was interrupted by a string of
wild windy wet days...

not that such weather is without it's pleasures..

I cozied up and spent a few days quietly
wandering around the house...

sometimes,
I feel I miss my house in the summer,
since so much of my days are spent outside

the garden was left tattered...

then nature flipped the switch
and the cloudy days blew away...

the Mount Rainier view from my porch...

after a big prune
the garden began to tidy up...

 Glorious,
Ballerina Roses...

James Galway...

the garden drank up all the rain,
lush and green abundance...

tiny Achillea
up close...

Feverfew...

my front porch washtub planter,
now in it's prime...

Valerian on the fence line...

Cupid's Dart....

a bundle,
salvaged from the big prune...

One of the most tragic things I know about human nature
is that all of us tend to put off living.

We are all dreaming
of some magical rose garden over the horizon
instead of enjoying the roses that are blooming
outside our windows today.

Garden Roses...

The first flush of Roses,
has been breath taking...

I feel completely spoiled
picking bundles for the house...

I thought this bundle delightful,
paired with this rusty garden sign...

the Rose varieties are,
Paul's Himalayan Musk Spray Roses,
David Austin's Wisley Rose
and
David Austin's Huntington Rose...

they smell
 as wonderful as they look...

The world is a rose; smell it and pass it to your friends

blowing a whiff your way,
my friends...

A Place in the Shade...

The soft days of Spring
are dwindling...

as the days become warmer,
I find my self more often on this little bench...

it is a new addition this year...

a simple bench,
in a simple place,
beneath the shade of the Pussy Willow Tree...

David Austin's
Wild Eve Rose is nearby
and one of my favorites...

she trained easily
onto this bird feeder,
despite her name...

I thought I would reshare
 from last year,
Wild Eve's first blooms...

she has owned my heart since...

I hope you too
are finding simple joys...
