Summer Roses...

I thought tonight
I would take you back in time
for a little garden stroll...

share a few Roses from the Summer Past...

"Remember midsummer:
the fragrance of box, of white roses
And of phlox.

And upon a honeysuckle branch
Three snails hanging with infinite delicacy
-- Clinging like tendril, flake and thread,
as self-tormented and self-delighted
 as any ballerina,

 just as in the orchard,
Near the apple trees, in the over-grown grasses
Drunken wasps clung to over-ripe pears
Which had fallen: swollen and disfigured.

For now it is wholly autumn:
 in the late Afternoon
as I walked toward the ridge where the hills begin,
There is a whir, a thrashing in the bush,
and a startled pheasant, flying out and up,
Suddenly astonished me,
breaking the waking dream."
 Delmore Schwartz,

Thanks For Stopping By....

Gorgeous, I love the withered petals too. We are going into spring in New Zealand and I can't wait for the roses to come out. I used to have over 70 different varieties in my garden but now in my smaller cottage I only have box hedging, standard bay trees and star jasmine which I am espaliering. I do miss my roses and that's probably why I love to paint them.

Really stunnning portraits of your beautiful roses. The poem is wonderful too. I have been startled by a pheasant exactly like that a time or two! So nice to stroll the garden with you.

Lovely rose poem, but your roses are the best. A shame rose time is almost over now, but we can watch and rewatch the pictures year round. Enjoyed your beauties!

Thanks for the tip I have never heard of Austins "Huntington" Maybe it is not hardy enough for my climate. I will check! Absolutely my favorite picture of a rose I have seen in a long time. It makes me happy! All the best Mari
