July in the Garden...

July started cool here in the Pacific Northwest...

 

but,

here in this the last week

it has really heated up...

 



 

its time

for lazy afternoons,

dipping your toes in the cool water...

 

sometimes a little dew is

left on the petals of a rose

when I lazily stroll the garden...

 



 (the faithful bonica rose)

 

but more often than not,

the roses and I are feeling a little droopy

from the heat...

 

the Tall Garden Phlox,

pick up where the where tender perennials leave off...

 

putting on a colorful show...

 

the Blushing Lucy

wild child rose

still needs to be pruned back

as you can see

 from her crazy six foot canes dangling down...

 

I have fallen behind this year...

 

being newly single,

sometimes a fun afternoon away

calls louder than the pruning sheers...

 



the Anenome

have also begun their cheerful and carefree show...

 



 

 heat weary Eden Roses,

in the late Summer

they always start to look like Camellias to me...

 

 

sweet

Fairy Roses...

 



 

Mallow,

growing at the foot of the gazebo...

 

 

it always seems completely wrong to me,

that the tender Hydrangea Bloom

in the hottest part of Summer...

 

 

lovely Annabelle Hydrangea...

 



 

this photo of my fountain lady

is completely over exposed...

 

but,

it feels cool,

like a watercolor...

 

and the glowing orb

centered on her head is magical...

here comes August...

I have already caught myself wondering

where the Summer has gone...

 

time moves so quickly...

Cake and Roses on the Porch...

Summer has hit a stall here

in the Pacific Northwest...

 

not that I am complaining,

its very nice.

 

warm enough for lazy afternoons on the porch,

but still cool enough to bake a cake...

 

so I did just that....

 



 

I made a little nest on my back porch...

 



 

with a view...

 



 

a think sprinkles

are the carefree way

to fancy...

I have had this pillow for two years,

I always forget to bring it out in the summer...

 

it was from H&M 

did you know they have a home goods catalog?

 

I have bought several lovely things there...

Weekends Finds...

as many of you

my faithful readers know...

 

my favorite way to spend a weekend morning

 is foraging yard sales...

 

 

on this particular weekend,

I first found this simple doorless medicine cabinet,

destined to be a shelf

among the montage of shelves in my office....

 

in my trunk it went,

 then as a gathered other goodies

they tucked inside...

 

forming a perfect spontaneous vignette......

 

a floral crown,

for when I feel the need to be queen...

(which admittedly is often)

 



 

tattered pointe shoes

thrill my heart to no end...

 



 

small orphaned plates...

I never make it home without a few....

 



a bohemian scarf...

 



 

a nice length

of this deep crocheted lace...

 

a sweet lacy bonnet...

 



 

rusted hatpin still in place...

 

as if the young wearer,

hurriedly took off her scratchy Easter Bonnet

and tossed it to the side...

Love of Roses...

 I have been enjoying going out to garage sales

 this year...

 

I've found some gorgeous new treasures...

 

the below painted roses are on the top

 of an amazing antique cheese dish

I'll share with you in a minute...

 

 

As a young girl,

I would sit and watch my grandmother paint roses...

 

she was a talented China Painter

 

I believe this sparked both my love of

Beautiful China

and my

Love of Big Fluffy Roses...

like I need another creamer!
