I have decided to soak in
all that the late summer days have to offer...
the shorter days,
cast a delicious shade across the garden
in the afternoon...
I decided to tuck in by the Pee-Gee Hydrangea
for some quiet time...

tea in a basket,
and a new book I have yet to indulge in...
are my afternoon companions..
(and six feisty dogs :-)
a rosy china cup...
the garden fresh Strawberries are bountiful & delicious...
the book that has been calling for my attention...
Gertrude Jekyll and the Country House Garden
Gertrude was the original Architect of the Cottage Garden,
and as I lounge with my tea
looking over my garden,
thinking of what is working,
and what is not...
Gertrude will offer a wealth of inspiration...
you may not be able to read a book by it's cover,
but this one sold me by it's!
one single rose...
the Gertrude Jekyll Rose....
I receive lots of e-mails asking,
what rose do I recommend...
I am only a tinkerer in my own garden..
but if you are looking,
look into the Gertrude Jekyll...
for me,
she is the first to bloom & the last...
she is a steady and abundant bloomer,
and her sweet perfume will curl your toes!

What a perfect way to spend a late summer afternoon, Bella. :) You and Gertrude admist the roses. I used to have a GJ rose bush at my lake house. I must plan on buying another one for our farmhouse. I remember how fragrant it always was. ♥

thank you for your lovely comment. Your have set a beautiful tea time from your basket. Your are absolutely right, we should souk in all the options of the last summer days. But the fall has also nice days. I often heard from Gertrude Jekyll but never saw a book about her garden. Lovely roses and strawberries, those are long gone here.
