The End of the Season...

September is the month garage sales

tend to dry up,

or more accurately

here in Seattle the month they

get rained out...

 

I thought I'd share my last few finds of the season...

 

can you have too many floral creamers?

never!

 



 

the nubby tablecloth underneath

 is also a new find...

 

I am keeping it stored away

 like my chunky sweaters,

not quite ready to give into the chill of fall,

 yet...

 

I have been looking for stemware,

and found very little...

 

these little juice glasses,

with their simple lines,

and floral etching,

made my day...

 



 

simple and sweet...

 

when the sales dried up,

I couldn't resist hitting a couple shops...

 

I was very excited to find a couple pitchers...

 

I have been coveting Jacqueline's pitchers

for a long time wanting

one of my own...

I always love the marks,

like little stamps on postcards,

for far away places...

 



 

the pitchers

will make great stand alone pieces...

 

but for now,

while I still can,

I plan to stuff them full of roses...

For me,

my garden is a slice of heaven on earth...

 

so when I found this sweet lazy cherub,

lounging on a birdbath,

 

I knew I had to bring him home...

 



the bath is very short in stature...

 

and,

 I may say birdbath,

but my dogs are sure this is their new

very convenient,

no bending your neck to drink,

water bowl...

 



 

the days on the calendar are passing

so quickly,

I am not ready to embrace the fall yet...

 



I want to pause

 to enjoy,

 every moment,

of these last days of summer...

 



 



contemplating roses...

 



 

floating roses,

just because...

 



 

scattering petals,

just because...

 



 

napping in the sun,

just because...

Fall Mushroom Hunting...

One of my summer goals

was to learn the ropes of mushroom hunting...

 

we decided to focus on two varieties

to start with...

 

Morels in the spring

(here is a link to that post)

and Chanterelles in the fall..

 

 

here Chanterelle season really gets going

 after a good rain...

 

so the time was right...

 



simple tools,

for me...

 

a basket, a whistle, a knife

and a walking stick to swat spider webs...

 

my Mr. is much more prepared,

with a GPS...

 

we have carefully studied

what to look for...

 

the right habitat,

and right characteristics,

with mushrooms it better safe than sorry...

 



 

we find dozens of different kinds...

 

 

each amazing...

 



and unique...

 



a fairy world...

 

 

this one I almost picked,

but being a newbie played it safe...

 

only to regret it later,

it was a Lobster Mushroom...

 

 

at the end of the day,

empty baskets...

 

but happy,

a day hiking in the woods

 is never a bad day...

 

 

now obsessed,

we had to try again...

 

we try different woods...

 

and success,

Chanterelles...

 

 a picture blurry from excitement...

 

in the end we found one pound of Chanterelles,

and one more Lobster Mushroom

that I brought home that time...

 



 

My hunting partner,

and sweetheart of twenty one years...
