The Secret Garden of Mossyrock, Wa....

 

When we go out for a Sunday Drive,

on Highway 12 in Mossyrock,  WA...

 



 

we always stop to take a stroll

at this little roadside garden...

 

it's easy to miss

if you don't keep your eyes open...

 



it would be easy to miss

because it is only about forty feet wide...

 

a mini oasis...

 



 

my favorite part,

are the big Arborvitae Hedges

that border the garden...

 

you walk right off the noisy Highway,

and transcend

into a quiet Secret Garden

full of singing birds...

 



 

Magical Pink Snow...

 

 

 

 

if you are ever traveling down highway 12,

in Mossyrock,  WA

don't blink,

it is the perfect place to stretch your legs...

Lilacs on the Mantel...

 

I brought in my basket of Lilacs

I shared in yesterdays post...

 

 

and went for an ultra simple,

yet decadent arrangement...

 



 

I keep the front parlor

closed at night,

and each morning when I open the doors

 the scent is overwhelming...

 

amazing...

intoxicating...

 



 

I have been picking up these jars

for years at garage sales....

 



 

some of the jars have a diamond pattern,

some a lattice pattern....

 

I think it gives them

a fanciful twist...

 

this big ones usual job is holding

fresh pickles in the summer...

 

I have heard they were old coffee jars....

Love of Lilacs...

 

As I have said I am having a

 Love Affair with Lilacs..

 

they have been amazing this year....

 

it wasn't always so...

 

my Lilac hedge has been many years in the making,

we had early problems with blight...

 

since I garden organically

and actually use nothing in the garden but compost,

it was a long process of heavy pruning to remove all the disease...

 

I believe in natural selection in the garden

and that good soil goes along way...

 



 

this year

I have been rewarded

with many baskets

 full of blooms...

 



 

I'll share my Lilac Mantle tomorrow,

stop by for a virtual whiff...

I am having a love affair with Lilacs

this year,

the first Tree Peony Blooms...

 

I plucked these

and made a bouquet,

that I shared with you last week...

Sunday Drives...

I have never been bitten

by the travel bug...

 

I am happy at home,

a true homebody...

 

but, 

 I do love a Sunday Drive...

 

it needn't be far,

just a lazy drive on a country road...

 

 

over the past few weeks

I have been enjoying the sights of Spring...

 

by far

these sweet lambs

were the highlight...

 

just look at the spots on the left one!

 



this one smiling,

he must know

just how sweet he is...

 



 

there were other Sunday's

enjoying Spring blooms...

 



 tender wild violets,

pushing up through the moss...

 



a rain soaked bog,

full of Skunk Cabbage...

 



 

roadside blooms...

 

 

Trillium on the forests floor...

 



 

a sandwich lakeside,

watching the world green up again....

 

young ducks,

falling in love....

 



 

this weekends Sunday Drive

was postponed,

due to rain....

 

lots of rain....

 

so I just made a quick bouquet of

 Tree Peony blooms and Lilacs...

 

 



 

I brought out

my new rosy throw quilt...

 

Daisy was sure it was

just for her...

 



as soon as I shooed her away,

Randy jumped up,

eager to take over the warm spot...

 

well, if you can't beat them,

join them...

 

Sunday Naps

 are almost as good as Sunday Drives....
