Lazy Days of August...

The Lazy days of summer
are holding me tightly in their grasp :-)

I thought today I should shake it off
and enjoy the garden...
Would you like to come along?

Remember a couple months ago
Valerian dominated this area?

The Anemone have pushed them back
and taken their place in the spotlight...

I love their sunny faces....

Pink Lilies mixed with white Phlox
make a bright display,
and smell delightful...

My loyal Gertrude Jekyll Roses
are gearing up for another burst of blooms...

The Sweet Pea have reached the top of the obelisk
are are starting to pop open...

The deep purple Hydrangea is blooming
with a backdrop of it's softer pastel colored cousins...

Here is a close-up of the pretty purple...

I don't know the variety name
it was acquired in a plant trade
with a gardening neighbor...

Tiffany Roses are always worth looking at...

A tangle of annuals in a boarder bed,
Salvia, Dusty Miller, Alyssum, and  Petunia...

A favorite annual of mine is
Salvia Victoria Blue...
Pink Phlox in the background...

A new to me this spring Rose,
making it's first good show,
Heirloom...
she is as pretty as can be :-)

Adventures in Garage Saling...

I will just start by saying...
I had a fabulous weekend garage saling.

Instead of setting a tea table today
I thought I would share
my favorite find!

Saturday morning I didn't have a lot of time..
but  I think "why not run my garage sale route real quick"
(yes.. I have a route, I am a creature of habit).
I plan to just do drive bys....

(click photos to enlarge)

I see a sale that has lots of dishes..

Then I see this tea set
it is love at first sight!

I see the price and my heart just pitter patters :-)

Then I grab a few other very nice dishes,
(I will have to share those later:-)

Pay for my goodies..
The lady who's sale it is helps me wrap the dishes in newspaper,
she is wrapping the teapot and pulls out...

her purchase receipt,
she says "Look Mom the receipt is still in here"
her Mom comes over to look,
I look over and TRY not to gasp.

So now I am holding my breath
because I know someone is gonna take my prize back!

But no one does :-))

Then I come home and look up the pretty mark on-line...
A reproduction!
(see that uppercase L it should have been a lowercase)

Then I look at the pretty pretty roses,
and know I am still beyond thrilled!

Labels be it on clothes or dishes,
just don't mean that much to me.

The beauty is what makes my heart pitter patter :-)

The gorgeous teapot..
Or is it really a chocolate set?
(I know one of the Expert tea ladies will know)

 cream and sugar...

roses :-)

It was a great day Garage saling :-)

I am joining several great tea parties today!

Lace Trims...

Did everyone hit the garage sales this weekend?
Or if you are so lucky the flea markets!

One of my favorite finds
is handmade and vintage lace edgings.
Today I washed and ironed some bags of trims
I was lucky enough to find this summer...

(click photos to enlarge)

Bags are usually mixed lots
with a bit of this and a bit of that..

A small bit of pretty and delicate lace...

This vintage lace collar with rosettes is a favorite find!!

oodles of delicate vintage machine made lace...

But my favorites are the crocheted trims!

I plan to use some to trim cotton dish towels,
and I want to line my cupboards edges with
some of the longer pieces....

The pattern of this piece reminds me of dragonflies...

Usually I buy the pieces in gallon bags
grab bag style,
sight unseen... for next to nothing.

It's like Christmas to come home
and open the bag to see what pretties are inside :-)

This piece just made my heart sing,
a nice long strip of lacy scallops :-)
