A Quiet Stroll...

It has been a beautful weekend here

and I have been snapping a few random shots of the garden...

with it being late summer

there are no more new flowers to bloom this year...

but there is still alot of beauty to capture,

so I'll share a bit with you in a quiet stroll...

I love how the late summer sun

streams across the garden

softly...

soft gold tones are already showing up

in the foliage....

Finding a frog in the garden

always makes my day!

a Pacific Tree Frog...

they are great climbers!

this little newbie frog

is only the size of your thumbnail...

blue roses...

sigh...

the first Hydrangea blooms,

are fading,

the colors becoming so soft...

tattered baby roses....

I have decided to soak in

all that the late summer days have to offer...

the shorter days,

cast a delicious shade across the garden

 in the afternoon...

I decided to tuck in by the Pee-Gee Hydrangea

for some quiet time...

and a new book I have yet to indulge in...

are my afternoon companions..

(and six feisty dogs :-)

the garden fresh Strawberries are bountiful & delicious...

the book that has been calling for my attention...

Gertrude Jekyll and the Country House Garden

Gertrude was the original Architect of the Cottage Garden,

and as I lounge with my tea

 looking over my garden,

thinking of what is working,

and what is not...

Gertrude will offer a wealth of inspiration...

you may not be able to read a book by it's cover,

but this one sold me by it's!

one single rose...

the Gertrude Jekyll Rose....

I receive lots of e-mails asking,

what rose do I recommend...

I am only a tinkerer in my own garden..

but if you are looking,

look into the Gertrude Jekyll...

for me,

she is the first to bloom & the last...

she is a steady and abundant bloomer,

and her sweet perfume will curl your toes!

My Flower Pickers Basket...

I started out to pick some flowers today...

I love to have fresh bouquets for the weekend....

then I remembered my little

flower picking basket

I bought last fall...

I have hardly used it this year,

and the summer is flying by

so quickly now...

the little flower pickers basket

has a cane handle....

the bottom of the cane is sharp

and pokes into the ground easily...

today's harvest included,

Ballerina Roses...

Cottage Roses...

and Oak Leaf Hydrangea...

I picked so many flowers,

there was enough for several bouquets...

but small lazily arranged flowers

in tattered china

are always my favorite...
