August's Last Garden Stroll...

How about a little garden stroll?

 

It's just a little one,

it has been a dry year here,

and I have had a garden hose in my hand

 much more than a camera...

 

the first good rain

 since before the Fourth of July fell this morning,

I think I heard the garden slurp...

and sigh...

 

I am looking forward to things

plumping up...

 

 

soft ruffles of roses...

 

 

the Wedgewood Rose,

nodding her sweet head...

the Mortimer Sackler Climbing Rose

reached the top of the trellis

this week...

 



 

the girls

soaking up some sun...

 

Iris is still a playful pup,

Daisy has become serious,

and so mature...

 

Iris spends a lot of time taunting her...

 



 

the late summers golden sun,

filtering through Eden Roses...

The Other Side...

The days of summer are fleeting...

 

there is so much to do,

so much to see...

 

 

a Sunday drive

 is one of the great pleasures

 of summer...

 

a pretty view

of the valley in

 Naches, Washington...

 

We go East,

across Mount Rainer,

to the other side...

 

to where Washingtonians

would call the dry side...

 



Apple country...

 



many orchards are

planting espalier style now...

 



 

I don't think it is as lovely

as old fashioned rows...

 

the grace of where the trees meet

forming arches...

 

wouldn't this be a beautiful setting

for a rustic fall wedding?

 



 

bins waiting

to be filled...

 

Washington Apples,

coming soon

 to a store near you...

 



a charming Victorian Farmhouse...

 



 

the chickens were also eager

 to do some Sunday traveling...

 

see what is on the other side,

of the road...

 

 

our view

riding off into the sunset,

heading back

home...

Here we are

 in the hot and lazy days of summer,

how did August get here so fast?

the Lilies,

their powerful heady fragrance,

fills the air...

 

 

Rose of Sharon,

basking in the sun...

 

 

Anemones popping open,

with fading Valerian below...

 

 

the Roses...

 

 

a fluffy and a bit tattered

spray of  Mortimer Sackler...

 

 

Eden soaking up the morning sun...

 

 

Sceptered Isle...

 

 

Bee Balm,

much too red for my garden...

 

the Bee Balm is a

Hummingbird paradise...

 

I'm going to have to look

for a lighter variety...

 



Toadflax...

 



 

seed pods everywhere,

pretty in their own right,

summer is passing too soon...

 



 

we have started some painting projects,

last week the front rails,

next the columns,

the porch floor...

 

so much to squeeze in...

 

 

so many lazy days ahead...
