Painting, Painting and more Painting...

So,

where have I been?

I have been bitten by the painting bug,

anything in my way should be afraid :-)

I painted my bedroom,

I gave you a peak and will show you more soon...

I painted the dining room,

I am starting on the foyer

and stairs,

but mostly I am painting the woodwork

and it is time consuming!

in the middle of my painting frenzy,

I bought a new chandelier...

from Home Depot...

it is the Heritage 6 style,

and available ONLY on-line,

I learned this after visiting three stores...

I painted it antique white....

and distressed it....

in past posts I have shown you

how I created drips on the candles of chandeliers

using a glue gun

(here and here)

this time I just dragged a small paint brush

along the edge of the "candle stick"

and let it drip...

here is the new dining room paint color,

it's Martha Stewart Orchid,

the paint is Behr one coat premium...

I think the first few pics show it a bit better

then these last pics,

lighting has been horrible on this gloomy day...

I am so excited to have the archway

between the rooms white!!!

when I moved here

 I never thought I would paint the woodwork,

but I couldn't be happier...

the rooms feel twice as big and so fresh and clean...

you can see the color is similar to the parlor color

but the dining room is a brighter and less subdued shade,

I just couldn't catch it with the camera today...

I had to share a pic

of my faithful painting companion Berry,

he celebrated his twelfth birthday this week...

He is, by the way,

 sitting on my favorite settee...

With paintbrush in hand,

I have been eyeing it all week,

so far I lack courage...

But,  I know it WILL be gorgeous in white :-)

What a Difference a Day Can Make...

Just yesterday we strolled the garden,

last night the big chill came,

what a difference a day can make...

 I thought I'd share

a bit of this mornings icy show...

the garden was a sugar coated dream...

sparkling in the morning sun...

I was so excited about this shot,

the so tender drooping heads of the Anemone...

It is so blurry!

It was a cold shivery stroll,

aren't you glad you are cozy at home

with a hot cup of tea?

edges glittered to perfection...

so fragile...

there is always hope,

a survivor!!

I told you Gertrude Jekyll is one tough gal,

tucked up close to the gazebo

she showed no signs wear...

November at the Garden Gate...

How can it be,

that November is knocking at the garden gate,

so soon?

So far we have only had a touch of frost,

but it is chilly...

but it wouldn't be Autumn,

without deliciously fresh weather

and bright blue skies...

Grab a sweater (or coat)

and a scarf...

I'll show you around...

November comes
And November goes,
With the last red berries
And the first white snows.

With night coming early,
And dawn coming late,
And ice in the bucket
And frost by the gate.

The fires burn
And the kettles sing,
And earth sinks to rest
Until next spring.

Lots of leaves are still hanging on,

but the garden is bathed in a soft glow,

a golden light...

(the stewartia tree in it's fall glory)

don't you love the clear blue skies of a cold day,

and the night skies so full of stars?

The Beauty Berries are abundant...

colorful leaves and berries are to be expected,

but there are also roses to be found,

random blooms to be sought out....

Some tattered...

some are bruised,

but still holding their heads high and proud...

knowing they are still beautiful...

then there are the surprise finds,

a perfect little bit of Eden...

others are as fresh and tender

as a rainy spring morn...

glorious in the Autumn sun...

enough to gather a small bundle...

to lovingly arrange

on the sideboard shelf...

November Roses,

can brighten the coldest day...
