It was an exciting day in the garden...
(click photos to enlarge)
I was surprised to see
the early Crocus opened today...
We have had an unseasonably warm
couple of weeks...
what a joy to see their bright happy faces!
bathed in a bit of sun....
I am sure we will still have more snow
February is usually our snowy month...
but, what a nice mid-winter break this is!
On Monday... I went to Half Price Books.
I saw on someones blog they had found some great books...
(I wish I could remember who?)
I was wanting
Pierre-Joseph Redoute's
books of Rose plates....
I plan to collect frames at garage sales this summer
and fill my house with a rose garden
of these amazing botanical color plates...
When I got to the store
they had two books of good quality prints...
The first had larger plates and a white background
the other smaller plates on a linen colored background...
I couldn't resist buying both ;-)
They make my heart sing!
I took a quick peek in the gardening section of the store
and found this giant book!!
The Ultimate Rose Book
Stirling Macoboy
No kidding, this book features 1500 roses,
with lovely color photos,
and weighs in at over 7 pounds!!
Today I will be joining...
the Tablescaper for Seasonal Sunday
and
Thanks for visiting me today!

Oh Bella, I am SO jealous and excited for you to see those beautiful crocus! Mine are deep under about 3' of piled up snow now. I loved seeing yours.. thank you.. Don't you think that crocus should smell pretty? Just like so many other sweet flowers that have no pretty scents.
If you get a chance, can you give me your advise on my latest find from my house.. Maybe you can tell me if you know what it is, or what I should do with it, restore it, and what you would do with it? I love all your makeovers and would love your advise.. See my last post on my blog called, "Finding Beauty in the Things Left Behind". Thank you for the sweet reminder that Spring isn't too far away for us Zone 6'ers...
Hi Bella,
Wow! Crocus already you lucky girl!!! It is hard not to be a little bit envious as mine are still months away.
The books are beautiful also and will make lovely prints.

Bella- I am SOOOO jealous! You have crocus? Is the plural of that corcuses, corci..or just plain old crocus? Well, whatever it is..I love them...and I can't believe you HAVE something blooming already. Your book is beautiful and I can't wait to see some of your frames that you will find...filled with rose pictures~ Hugs-Diana
A fabulous find. The pages will look so pretty in frames, a garden on the wall, sigh:) Jealous of your first spring blooms.
We could certainly use early crocus's here. We are covered in a blanket of snow and it's getting old now. Time for Spring. Loved your photos. Hugs, Deb=^..^=x5 Ottawa Canada
Hi Bella, They are sweet and cute little flowers. I have been working in the garden today and noticed that our winter Iris have bloomed here for So Cal. Now I am just waiting for the roses to kick in for early Spring. Have a good evening............Julian
How pretty and delicate these flowers are. I can't stop looking at them. Just looking at the pictures fills my heart with warmth and joy.
And what great books too. The prints are so beautiful.
Enjoy the warm days before the snow hits again.
How beautiful little flowers you have!
I started my day with a smile.
Greetings from Greece...
Dearest Bella,
You're lucky for having found these precious books. They certainly will work great inside some special frames. You will manage to find some unique ones... just wait.
Your crocus are very early, they must have a spot that might be protected from the cold wind in some way. Enjoy them, they're the first messengers of SPRING!
Lots of love,
Mariette
Wow!What a beautiful color (the Crocus)! I love this colour. This reminds me that the nature is so amazing.
Bella spring is on the way to us.....lovely... beautiful and a sign that hopefully 2011 will be the year of flowers, colour and happiness...

Beautiful ~ I long to see my crocus ~ but it's not to be for a while. I can dream and look through my garden books ~ they make me smile ;-)
Bella, you are so lucky to have this hint of spring already, thanks for sharing your crocuses.
The framed rose plates could create a conservatory effect where you hang them and I think they will look fantastic. I think you were meant to find those books, glad you were able to get the one you'd been wanting.
Judith
Hi Bella, oooh how exciting your first crocuses are blooming!... we had a major blizzard here two days ago, and once more my little garden is under piles of snow... love your new books on roses too... those will look so beautiful framed and I want one of those big books!... xoxo Julie Marie
Thank you for the photos of early spring! Mine are still buried under a foot of snow.
Hi Bella
So wonderful.....the first Crocus of the Year :)
Soon there is summer....and ROSES :)
Hugs from HÃ¥kan
I can't wait to see a bloom in my yard..another couple months or so. I have that rose book too!
We have about 12 more weeks before we get to see anything come up, including grass.
Thanks for sharing as it gives me hope that spring is just around the corner.
Amy (Mom to the Four Sisters)
Oh, you are so lucky---what I wouldn't give for flowers about now! Our winter has been way too cold. Thanks for sharing this loveliness.
Your crocus flowers are lovely! Those Redoute books are a great purchase, I think those pictures are still used to identify old roses whose names are lost.
What pretty crocus...I noticed my first daffodil this morning...it seems early, but it's been warm here!
Love those sweet crocus...your books are really making me drool, what gorgeous illustrations!
Thank you for sharing your crocuses with us. Ours are still weeks away from showing their sweet little faces. Until then ~ I'll enjoy yours.
Cindy
The flowers are very nice but I have to give a bit of an ugh because they won't be blooming here for months. Books look good too.
These are so beautiful!
My entry.
Bella, how nice that you found your books. The inside rose garden sounds like a terrific idea.
The crocus are gorgeous with their delicate hint of lavender.
~ Sarah
Oh, how I love your beautiful blossoms bursting out of the earth and such glorious roses.

My goodness, don't your crocuses brighten the day for all those who are snowed in! I'll keep an eye out for books you might like and think of you as I do.
Those prints are gorgeous! Your house will look lovely! And I love the crocuses! I still have more than a month to wait for mine to poke their little heads out of the ground! I had never thought to pick a couple of the blossoms, and photograph them!! I will have to try that!!
Absolutely gorgeous! I bet you were excited to see these, Bella! :-)
XO,
Sheila :-)
